About the European Migration Network

The EMN National Contact Point in Slovenia.

The European Migration Network (EMN) is a network of experts that provides objective, reliable and comparable information on migration and international protection within the EU.

The network

European Migration Network

The origins of the EMN date back to 2003, when the European Commission, at the initiative of the European Council, set up a pilot project for the network in order to improve the exchange of reliable information on migration and international protection between EU Member States.

It was officially established on 14 May 2008 by Council Decision 2008/381/EC and amended by Regulation (EU) No 516/2014. The EMN operates on the basis of multiannual work programmes, and its key tasks include collecting and analysing data from various sub-areas of migration and asylum, preparing thematic studies and other publications, maintaining a glossary of terminology, and organising conferences, expert meetings and other events.
